Let’s talk IAESTE. For those not in the know, again, one of those best kept secrets back at the university, was IAESTE.
IAESTE stands for International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience.
Do I need to say that back in the day, working with and for them got me more than one “sucker!!” comment? Nope, but back in 95, at the tender age of 23, working my ass off going to a brewery in the town of Zerka, near Amman, to start work at 7am with the electrical maintenance group, I realized that I can choose to work for a living or living for work. Right then I decided that life was more important than work, and although work is important because it funds your life, it does not define your life.
Why am I talking about this right now? I just created a company in Texas. Carlos Apps LLC. Will that retire me from the corporate world? I doubt it. The corporate world funds my life. The corporate world pays me handsomely for what I do well, not for what I like best. And up to a point, I like what I do, so it doesn’t feel like work, but it does not drive me. Carlos Apps LLC drives me. Finally the geek in me found a positive outlet.
I owe a big debt of gratitude to Joan J Lopez and IAESTE, for getting me into IAESTE, for finding the sucker in me and giving me responsibilities, for helping me find my colleague, wife and mother of two beautiful children and for giving me the taste of world exploration. Her, I have to thank too, but that is another post.
Now, back to learning SEO for what drives me, AppsfromCarlos.com.
