I am quite amazed at the responses I have been getting from people when I say that I am programming iPhone apps. Mostly has been indifference. Does people think that developers are guys living in their mom’s basements, surrounded by pizza boxes and mountain dew bottles? What is the level of wonder of normal people? Does the saying “curiosity killed the cat” really turned off people? Has our society reached a level of acceptance of its limitations and driven itself to apathy? “get shit done” should be everyone’s motto.
Things can only be done when I can do them myself. I can replicate the photography of Sports Illustrated and improve on it. I can build longboards with the same technology as Santa Cruz and maybe add some thoughts about torsion. I can hack into a wireless network given enough time. Be prepared.
I code iPhone apps because nobody has implemented my ideas, and until science can read my mind, nobody will implement all these ideas. I don’t need the next Facebook. I need the next app to make my kids smile in amazement.
Stop watching tv.
Get shit done.
Build something even if you can buy it better. Learn in the process.
