Here comes another rant. GOP leader John Boehner spent Tuesday afternoon educating the Republican newcomers on the current issues: why doesn’t the US still have a budget? Why the deb ceiling needs to be lifted every year? Why is the US on debt?

If you want to be a politician, so be it, but you have to know your last 50 years country history, economically and historically. You have to understand the ties between your country and your allies and past allies. You need to understand action and reaction at least 5 moves ahead.

Maybe I am a geek, but I want my politicians to enlighten me and my playmate models to do other things. This is no a Facebook popularity contest, this is the life of 300 million Americans and the millions of foreigners who produce every day to the final GDP and get nothing in return but the pride of working here. Brownie points we call them.

John Kerry, with all his faults and his lack of savoir-dire, knows more about US history than all the tea partiers combined. John Kerry, whose election was stolen in Ohio in 2004, brings common sense, if painful. Cavuto, from FOX, even if misguided (i am going to declare his upbringing guilty of the misguidance) has the knowledge to put the republicans in place. But the chairman of FOX won’t let him and he repeats the same litany the other right wingers do, but with better examples.

Is it elitist to be wanting to be governed by people smarter than us? Smarter means less mistakes down the road. But i digress. When I rant I do digress.

In any case, I really think that SATs would be a good filter for worthiness. If you know, you can work here. If not, be an entrepreneur, a business man but don’t mess with the lives of your fellow countrymen for kicks.

Eulalia and I just had our first earthquake together. Eulalia has been thinking too much about earthquakes and she finally managed to conjure up one. It has been pretty small. Her sofa zig zaged while watching tv. Mine didn’t. I guess gravity did a trick on my sofa. In any case, the shear waves were a nice touch.

Of course, we are out of the house. Drinking apple tea @ Muradan, a restaurant cafe behind the Blue Mosque.

Update: the quake was 5.2 in magnitude. Epicenter was the sea of Marmara, that we see from our window. Effects were felt in Istanbul, obviously.

Today I went to the movies. A 7:20pm show. Larry Crowne, because Tom Hanks can only do good movies. And this is no different.

The cast is great and varied and real. The shots intimate. The plot starts with a downer but manages to elevate us, because the movie is about choices. We have choices. Let’s execute them. The transformation of every character is empowering.

So, is it worth watching? Definitely. Will I watch it again? Every time I have a chance. And I have to say that the cinema was packed, so I am not alone thinking that there are better things to do on a Friday night when your family is overseas.

My running socks are blocking the broken air vent in the bus. The AC is down to 60F and i had to think to save my health this morning. A set of plush running socks block the cold air on me but fixing it late gave me two spots on the bus.

La familia esta camino de Barcelona y este es el primer huevo de Pascua que me han dejado los niños.

Yo acabo de volver de Harvard donde he pasado 3 días con unos compañeros de Chevron para poder mejorar nuestros conocimientos de restauración geomecanica. Como es de esperar, cada vez que me rodeo de doctores aprendo un montón. Y creo haber encontrado un punto de entrada en la caracterización de un campo que lleva siendo caracterizado desde hace 80 anhos.

También ha sido el lugar donde por primera y segunda vez he comido una langosta pescada por Dr. John Shaw, profesor del departamento de ciencias de la tierra en Harvard.

Como veis, aquí no nos aburrimos.
